Ensuring your iDevice is Always in Great Condition

An iPhone or an iPod is a sensitive piece of electronics, requiring good care. Here are a few pointers on how to properly care for your gadget:

  • Be careful cleaning that screen. It can be tempting to wipe the display down with a simple tissue or the corner of your shirt. However, these can cause scratches on the glass display, as the cloth can catch miniature particles in their fabric, resulting in them being dragged across the glass as you clean the screen. Instead, use a microfiber cloth so that you can be sure that nothing is caught in it when wiping the display. Additionally, avoid using chemical cleaners; they can erode the coating applied by Apple to the screen to protect it from fingerprints and keep its sheen.
  • Read the manual. It’s understandable that you want to play with your new gadget immediately. This often results in the manual being thrown to the back of the couch—a big mistake. Manuals are there for a reason. Read them to learn how to operate and take care of your new toy.
  • Get a protective screen. People leading active lives can’t help but place their iPhone in less-than-ideal situations, like being exposed to the elements while at the beach or on the bike trail. An additional screen protector will ensure that you display won’t end up being scratched.

If, despite your care and precautions, it still warrants a repair, don’t attempt to DIY and instead, bring it straight to a professional.
